Richard Michael Whitcomb

Richard M. Whitcomb of New Canaan, Connecticut, and Pocasset, Massachusetts, passed away on July 6, 2021, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Barbara O’Connor Whitcomb and the late James Henry Whitcomb. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Barbara Fishbein Whitcomb, son, Jonathan P. Whitcomb (Rachel), both of New Canaan, CT, and daughter Andrea L. Whitcomb of Holyoke, MA; grandchildren: Victoria, Joseph, Shannon, Richard, Elizabeth, Emily, and Harrison; and his sister, Barbara Jean Stoughton of York Beach, Maine. Several nieces and nephews also survive Dick. He was pre-deceased by his brother, James Whitcomb. 

Dick was the youngest of three children raised by a single mother in the village of Bellows Falls, Vermont.

Frank Joseph DiMuzio, 66

Frank Joseph DiMuzio (born Saverio Giuseppe), age 66, of Norwalk , Connecticut, formerly of New Canaan, Connecticut died peacefully June 30, 2021 at home after a brief battle with brain and lung cancer surrounded by his family. He received a “Gift of Life” 11 years ago, undergoing a heart transplant, a gift for which he was forever grateful. Gasperina Ida Pagnotta Zimbaro, 94

Gasperina Ida Pagnotta Zimbaro entered eternal rest on June 30, 2021 at the age of ninety four. She was born on April 1, 1927 to the late Luigi Pagnotta and Teresina Chilleli Pagnotta. She married the late Adolfo Zimbaro in Italy on January 25, 1947. She arrived in the USA with her husband and four children on the SS Saturnia in 1960. She lived in Brooklyn until 1984 moved to Yonkers, then New York City and then New Canaan, Connecticut. 

Gasperina was predeceased by sisters, Maria, Rosina, Angelina, and brothers Francesco, and Vincenzo. 

She is Survived by her sons Frank (Yuliana), Aldo (Flora), Louis and daughter Maria (John). 

Gasperina “Nonni” was adored and loved by her 6 grandchildren: Rosanna (John) Frank (Joanna) Danielle (Dwayne) Elizabeth (Rich) Grace and Leonardo, and 8 great grandchildren Sofia, Cara, JC, David, Frances, John Carter, Calista and Antonia. 

Gasperina loved everyone, especially her family.

Joseph Louis Mitchell, 86

Joseph Louis Mitchell, a 43-year resident of New Canaan, CT, died June 25, 2021 at Fairfield County House, Stamford, CT.  He was 86.   Born and raised in Stamford to Vincent and Grace Mitchell, he was predeceased by his siblings Vincent Mitchell, Lillian Schaumburg, Roberta Davies, and Lucille DeLuca. Besides building and designing contemporary homes in Stamford and Greenwich, Joe continued to work as a projectionist and stagehand at the Palace, Avon, and Darien Dinner Theatres.  When the movie industry was in the area, he worked behind the scenes on films such as “The Swimmer” and TV commercials. He was a member of Local 449 IATSE. A great lover of the outdoors, Joe enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, gardening, working on his cars, and walking in the woods where he could be close to nature.

Barbara Jean Lapolla, 80

Barbara Jean Lapolla, 80, a lifetime resident of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home on June 29, 2021. She was born on March 8, 1941 in Norwalk to the late James and Emma Cerretani Tiani. Barbra was the loving and devoted wife to Vito Lapolla of New Canaan and mother of Jennifer Lapolla Mardorf. 

Barbara was known for her kindness, beautiful smile, compassion, deep faith, and positive outlook on life. She was dedicated to her family, her faith and her two careers. Her first career began upon graduation from Marywood University.
