Maddie’s on Pine Street Closes After 18 Months

Maddie’s, a Pine Street eatery that mainly offered burgers and fried chicken sandwiches, closed this past weekend after about 18 months. A sign on the door at 78 Pine St. reads “Permanently Closed” and includes this message: “With sadness and immense gratitude, we will be closing permanently with our last day being 12/07. It has been an absolute pleasure to have served New Canaan and we thank all of our customers for their support.”

Signed “The Maddie’s Team,” the note is similar to one posted on the eatery’s website. It wasn’t immediately clear why Maddie’s closed.

New Canaan Dogs Quarantined After Biting Delivery Man

Two New Canaan dogs are undergoing quarantine after biting a delivery man on Cheese Spring Road last week. On the morning of Dec. 2, New Canaan Police received a call from a Yonkers, N.Y. man saying that at about 4:45 p.m. the prior day (a Sunday) he’d been bit on Cheese Spring at Knollwood Lane. He was making a delivery when “two dogs bit him on both his legs,” according to an incident report obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request. The delivery man went to the Norwalk Hospital ER for treatment, according to the report, written by Animal Control Officer Sean Godejohn.

‘Leaving an Indelible Mark’: Dr. Harrison Pierce Steps Down from Health & Human Services Commission

The town’s highest elected official last week honored a local physician and community leader during the COVID-19 pandemic known to generations of New Canaan families. First Selectman Dionna Carlson recalled during last week’s Health & Human Services Commission meeting that the appointed body’s chair, Dr. Harrison Pierce, dropped into her office following Carlson’s one year ago to say it may be time to step down from the role, she recalled. “And I said, ‘Please don’t leave me’ ” and “Please give me a year at least,’ ” Carlson recalled during the Commission’s Dec. 4 meeting, held at Town Hall and via videoconference. “So he was gracious as he always is, in being willing to serve an additional year to help me get on my feet,” she continued.
