Planning & Zoning Commission Chair John Goodwin announced during a special meeting Monday that he will not seek to remain as the appointed body’s chair. “I thought you should be aware and I think it’s important for you to consider who should take my place in the next few weeks,” Goodwin said during the remote meeting. He said it’s been an “incredible honor to work with” his fellow commissioners in the position, that serving as chair has been a “labor of love” and “enormously rewarding.” Goodwin noted that some of those on the Commission already have expressed an interest in becoming chair, and offered advice for them including the stress that can come with the volunteer role.

The Wreath Auction supporting the Carriage Barn Arts Center is up and running here through Saturday. Visit the Carriage Barn’s annual “Deck The Walls” exhibit (running through Dec. 10) of small works and artisan items priced at $250 and less. Congratulations to U.S. Navy machinist’s mate third-class petty officer Mason Wills, a 2018 New Canaan High School alumnus, on graduating Nov. 23 from Naval Nuclear Power Training on the USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, S.C. He was cheered on by his brother Eric (NCHS ’20), sister Peri (NCHS ’24) and parents. Wills will serve on the USS Hyman G. Rickover out of New London

The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday approved the reappointments of Chuck Jacobson and Rob Fryer to the Audit Committee and Amy Murphy Carroll and Victor Alvarez to the Board of Finance.

The selectmen on Tuesday approved the promotion of Nick Colabella to superintendent of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. He will succeed Jim Rogers in the role. Rogers has spent some four decades working for the town.

In case you haven’t seen them, check out the New Canaan Beautification League’s planters at the northern entrance to Town Hall. The nonprofit organization first planted bulbs for the spring and then created holiday displays for the Town Hall planters.

The Weed Street man arrested by New Canaan Police last summer on child pornography charges pleaded guilty to that charge and five additional charges brought by Darien Police, including illegal sexual contact, employing a minor in an obscene performance and multiple charges of sexual assault of children. He was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years of jail time, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records.

Last chance to get tickets: New Canaan Chamber Music’s concert—“An Afternoon of European Musical Delight”—will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4 at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. Musicians performing include Andrew Armstrong (piano), Demarre McGill (flute), Valerie Muzzolini (harp) and Edward Arron (cello). The selectmen on Tuesday approved an additional $2,000 for Atlas Companies LLC to extend a guiderail installation on Heritage Hill Road by about 20 feet, after receiving feedback during the initial $33,000 installation from neighborhood residents.
