New Canaan Police at 1:42 a.m. Sunday arrested a 68-year-old Southport, Maine man for urinating on a room door at the Roger Sherman Inn. He was charged with disorderly conduct.

The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday approved two promotions within the Department of Public Works. Congratulations to Lou Boice, now Equipment Operator III/Crew Leader, and James Peck, Interim Superintendent of Highway.

Police on the morning of Aug. 13 received two reports of cars stolen from Avalon Drive East: both unlocked vehicles with the keys left inside, one still missing (reported at 5:45 a.m.) and one found by Hartford Police (9:43 a.m.).

Court records show that the Country Club of New Canaan has settled the lawsuit brought by a former employee claiming age discrimination—an accusation the club denied.

The Country Club on Aug. 4 released the following press bulletin (and photo): “The CCNC Foundation was established in 2021 to help employees and their families with tuition expenses and ultimately help them achieve their educational goals. This week, the trustees awarded over $200,000 to 42 employees who work at the club in a full-time or seasonal capacity.  The amount each recipient received was based on their tenure, full-time vs. part-time, cost of their educational pursuits, and job performance. Recipients included kitchen and restaurant staff, bartenders, golf course personnel, office staff, lifeguards, and camp counselors.  The scholarships supported academic endeavors at four-year universities, community colleges, trade schools, and specialty courses.”

Police at 12:24 p.m. on Aug. 12 received a report of a piece of art stolen from 147 Elm St. (the address of Americana Memories).

There’s a 10% discount through Labor Day to reserve your lobster dinner from the New Canaan Rotary Club for its annual Lobsterfest. A fundraiser for the club’s grant-making program, Lobsterfest will run 4 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 28, at the Steve Benko Pool. Here’s some background on the Rotary Club.

Thanks to the community’s generosity, the New Canaan Human Services Department on Thursday is handing out gift cards for back-to-school. The agency has been collecting school supplies as well as donations for its food pantry. “Your contributions can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need,” organizers say. Those donating money or Walmart gift cards are asked to drop off at Human Services (77 Main St.) between 7:45 a.m. and 3 p.m. Here’s a list of Food Pantry items needed (drop off at St. Mark’s, 111 Oenoke Ridge).
