Police fined a Benedict Hill Road man more than $300 after two dogs in his care bit a next-door neighbor in the buttocks on a Sunday morning last month, records show.
At about 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, a woman was walking down her driveway to pick up newspapers when she saw her neighbor’s two dogs barking and running toward her, according to an incident report obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request.
The woman told police later that afternoon that she’d been “very afraid” and beginning running toward her neighbor’s house “and she fell as the dogs began to bite her buttocks several times,” according to the incident report.
She began “screaming as loud as she could” and then got back up and started running again toward her neighbor’s door, which he opened “to assist her as the dogs were still attempting to bite her,” the report said.
The man drove her home and the woman then went to Tully Center in Stamford, where her wounds were treated and she received antibiotics, a tetanus shot and “recommendations to see a surgeon due to the nature and location of the injuries,” the report said.
Police interviewed both the victim and the man in the afternoon.
The man told police that his dogs were off-leash and roaming the property when he heard screams and ran to the door.
“When asked, [the man] stated that he does not have an electric fence and the dogs are free to roam the property. [He] also stated that his dog is a rescue and he is unsure of the breed but he does have all of his required shots.”
The man’s dog, Sarge, is a Husky mix, and the second dog, Bane, is a pitbull that he had been watching for a friend who lives on Jelliff Mill Road, the report said. Police told the owners of both dogs that they must undergo a 10-day quarantine at home, by state law. Ultimately, police found that Sarge and Bane’s shots were up-to-date, the report said.
According to a follow-up report from Officer Allyson Halm, head of the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section, authorities had received multiple reports of dogs fitting the description of Sarge and Bane roaming in the area of Bob Hill, Evergreen and Benedict Hill on Sept. 5, 8 and 11.
The Benedict Hill Road man was cited for two counts each of allowing a dog to roam and nuisance dog, infractions that carry a total of $324 in fines.
Bane, the pitbull, was boarded at a Wilton facility, and after the 10-day quarantine period ended, Halm said she contacted his owner to say the animal could be released. That person “indicated that Bane would remain at the boarding facility until she made a decision regarding his future,” the report said. As of Sept. 26, the dog was still there said to be “in good health,” the report said.
So the “women” of the Pitbull left him at the boarding place until “she made a decision about his future”? Why get a dog if you’re not going to keep it. What a miserable human being. She should never be allowed to get another pet.
