The town on Wednesday will swear in two new officers with the New Canaan Police Department.

Both Erica L. Morey, 22, and Nicholas P. Agoglia, 33, participated in the fall 2022 recruitment process for prospective officers with NCPD, according to a press release issued by the department.

Agoglia who is married, is from Pound Ridge, N.Y., the press release said. He began his law enforcement career with the New York Police Department and was most recently employed as a police officer for the Pound Ridge Police Department.  Before his law enforcement career, Agoglia studied at SUNY Rockland Community College.

Erica L. Morey is from Brookfield, the press release said. She graduated from Brookfield High School and recently earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Connecticut State University, where she majored in Justice and Law Administration.

“They were two of over 50 candidates that submitted eligible applications for employment,” the press release said. “They both successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process including a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing, and Police Commission interview.”

Agoglia, a sworn officer with an out-of-state certification, must take various courses designated by Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council to attain his state certification.  He will begin his comparative certification training on Jan. 3, most of which will take place at the New Canaan Police Department.

Morey will begin her recruit training Dec. 29 at the Connecticut Police Academy’s 377th training session in Meriden. The tentative graduation date for that class is during the week of July 17. After completion of the academy, she will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with NCPD before being certified as a probationary police officer.
