After 15 years in business, Aetheria Relaxation Spa on Cherry Street has closed.
Founded by Beth McCarthy, a widely respected local businesswoman who was out ahead of a wellness trend in New Canaan, Aetheria offered therapeutic massage, botanical body treatments, organic skin care and health-related products and services as well as both bridal and maternity menus.
It wasn’t immediately clear why the business closed. McCarthy was not available for comment. Aetheria’s website and phone are both down.
A former member of the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors who had been featured in a “New Canaan Women Mean Business” leadership event, McCarthy three years ago suffered a near-fatal aneurysm and stroke, at age 46. The business and wider community rallied around her, and McCarthy returned the following summer to the two-story clapboard structure at 121 Cherry St. that Aetheria has occupied for more than one decade.
Chamber Executive Director Tucker Murphy called McCarthy “an out of the box thinker” with “new and creative ideas.”
What are they doing about all the outstanding gift cards?
Has anyone researched the legal structure to see what kind of legal entity it is, and if there is a bankruptcy filing?
My wife has an unused card, and I an sure lots of people do also.
I would also like to know if there is any recourse for unused gift certificates. I purchased one in late February for my daughter and they made no mention of the fact that they were thinking of closing down.
The new owner will honor gift cards: https://newcanaanite.com/did-you-hear-213-1199984
