Letter: Signposts Detract from ‘Gold Star Walk’ at Mead Park

Dear Editor:

With the many challenges facing New Canaan I hesitate to write about something as minor as new signage in Mead Park. The signs are part of the Gold Star Walk campaign, which revitalized a memorial path along the edge of the pond commemorating the lives of fallen soldiers. It’s a lovely idea; the new trees are beautiful and the restored bridges are wonderful. Far less attractive, unfortunately, are signposts dug into in the ground near dozens of the trees. They are about knee-high, unfinished raw wood, cut on the bias, with plastic 2-color panels nailed into each one saying “Gold Star Walk.”
