Mary Ann Barbera Becraft, 72

Mary Ann Barbera Becraft, 72, of New Canaan, CT passed away on March 19, 2021 at Norwalk Hospital with her loving family by her side. 

Mary Ann was born on April 21, 1948 in Haverstraw, NY to the late Carl and Mary Ella Oliphant Barbera. She graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1966 and from Ithaca College in 1969. A week after graduating from college she married her high school sweetheart, Lewis Kevin Becraft. After spending the better part of their 20s and 30s in the Finger Lakes and the Hudson River Valley (both places that were dear to their hearts), in 1985 they moved to New Canaan, CT where they raised their family and built a community that was at the center of their lives. Mary Ann spent her life as an educator, initially as a high school history teacher, and then as the director of Knox Headquarters State Historic Site in New Windsor, NY, as a longtime nursery school teacher at Toddler Time in New Canaan, as a library assistant at Saxe Middle School, and for almost three decades as a Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist Church of New Canaan.

David George Scannell, 81

David George Scannell, 81, of New Canaan, CT, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 12, 2021. David was born on April 24, 1939 to the late Joseph and Mary Jollymore Scannell. He was the loving husband of Susan Lloyd Scannell for 52 years. David grew up in a tight loving family in Worcester, MA with two rambunctious brothers and a doting baby sister.  Two things were clear from the very beginning: he held himself to a strict moral code, and he could sing. He sang solos for the bishop at the St Paul’s Cathedral boy’s choir.

Carol Toner Dolan, 74

Carol Toner Dolan, 74 of New Canaan, CT passed away on March 6, 2021. She was born in Boston, MA on March 30, 1946 to the late James Vincent and Martha Toner, and was the beloved wife to William R. Dolan. Carol had a wild, rich, and somewhat Rockwellian childhood. From being lovingly tormented by her older sisters to skipping school so that she could secretly attend the civil rights march on Washington, it was the kind that bred depth of character. When it came time for college, Carol enrolled at Elizabeth Seton in Yonkers, NY to pursue an art major.

Angela Marie Harriet Prosio, 21

Angela Marie Harriet Prosio, age 21, of New Canaan, CT, passed away suddenly at home on February 26th, 2021

Born in Norwalk on August 30th, 1999, she was raised and lived in New Canaan. A graduate of New Canaan High School, she went on to Duchess County Community College to purse a degree in Early Childhood Education, before returning back to her hometown to start her career. As a child, Angela enjoyed time with family and neighborhood friends. There was always a smile on her face with laughter to fill a room. Angela had a natural talent for painting and drawing, which consumed much of her free time as well.

Dr. Lewis J. Annunziato, 93

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Lewis J. Annunziato. Lew died peacefully on Tuesday, February 16th at Norwalk Hospital, just seven months after his beloved wife of 65 years, Janet, succumbed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Doctors believe Lewis died of aspirating Pneumonia, a common complication of Parkinson’s Disease, something he had been battling bravely for the last 10 years. A native to his beloved Town of New Canaan, Lew was born on March 30, 1926 at his home on Locust Avenue. He was the second son of the late Metz and Louise Annunziato.
