Diane Audrey Held Segalas, 86

Diane Audrey Held Segalas of New Canaan, CT passed away on the morning of February 13, 2021 at the age of 86 years old. She was surrounded by her family and peacefully at her home. Diane was born and raised in Manhattan, New York and attended the Spence School and studied art history at Finch College in New York City. While in college Diane worked at Sherman Billingsley’s renowned Stork Club as a publicist, it was there where she learned about event planning, a skill which would serve her well later in life. Diane was a big believer in community service, beginning her volunteer career at the Yorkville Volunteer Center before moving onto the YWCA of the City of New York.

John Francis Murray, Jr., 87

John Francis Murray, Jr., known as “Jack”, age 87, died peacefully at his home with his wife Ceci by his side on February 10, 2021. 

Jack was born June 5, 1933 in New York City to the late John Francis Murray and Agnes O’Connell Murray. He grew up in Yonkers, NY at 85 Bronx River Road, fondly known by Jack and his many relatives as “85”. Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cecilia Sullivan Murray, daughter Megan Steele and her husband Jim of New Canaan, son John Francis Murray III of Jackson, WY, daughter Michele Sloan and her husband Rob of New Canaan, and daughter Meredith Landino and her husband Marcus of Jackson, WY. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Sarah and Catherine Steele, Jake and Luke Landino, and Meredith, Peter, John Prentice (JP), Emily and the late Robert Sloan, III.

Michael Louis Rucci, 67

Michael Louis Rucci, age 67, of Bridgeport, Ct died peacefully January 31, 2021 in St Vincent’s Hospital, Bridgeport, CT

Born in Norwalk on March 12, 1953 he was the son of the late Joseph and Ida Mazza Rucci. He grew up in New Canaan, and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1971. He was a gentle, kind and loving father, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. Michael worked as a barber, carpenter, builder, and most recently a landlord and handyman for the multi-family building he owned in Bridgeport. There he became a favorite babysitter and honorary grandfather to his neighbors’ children, as well as a soft touch for all the four-legged strays in the neighborhood.

Patricia K. Brooks, 94

Patricia K. Brooks, Minneapolis native and Connecticut author and journalist, died peacefully in her New Canaan home on January 28, 2021, surrounded by family. She was 94. 

A prolific writer who authored more than two dozen books and wrote hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles, mostly on food and travel, Ms. Brooks was perhaps best known for her work as the restaurant critic for the New York Times’s Connecticut Weekly section. From 1977 to 2016, she filed an estimated 1,800 reviews, never once missing a deadline. That despite a travel schedule which, over the course of those years, had her visiting 65 different countries on five continents. 

She once described herself as a “typewriter for hire,” though critics and admirers found her work more interesting than that modest self-description implies, with a style that was graceful, creative and often laced with wry humor. She was the recipient of several awards for her writing. 

Patricia Janet Kersten was born in Evanston, Illinois, on December 17, 1926, to Robert and Mable Harrington Kersten, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Richard Suner Thomas, 75

Richard Suner Thomas, 75, a longtime resident of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2021. Richard was born on February 5, 1945 in Mineola, New York to the late Charles Rafter and Irma Suner Thomas. He was the beloved husband to Marianne Gregory Thomas of New Canaan. Richard graduated from New York University- Stern School of Business with an MBA. He also attended Pratt institute and graduated B. Arch a Bachelor of Architecture.
