Frank V. Tracy, Jr., 89

Frank V. Tracy, Jr. passed away on May 19, 2020 at his Ridgefield home. He was 89 years old and was born in Bristol, Connecticut, February 6, 1931, the son of Catherine M. and Francis V. Tracy. Frank was an engaging person with a friendly smile for everyone he met. He attended Bristol High School, Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut and graduated from Middlebury College. He was an enthusiastic and gifted baseball player and was an outstanding first baseman at both school and college.

John Poole Horgan, Jr., 96

John Poole Horgan, Jr., a World War II veteran and one of the nation’s first venture capitalists, died on Tuesday, June 9. Mr. Horgan, who was 96, lived in New Canaan, CT. He died of natural causes, according to his wife, Lois Horgan. Born January 17, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Horgan grew up on Long Island. He was considering a career in journalism when the U.S. Naval Academy accepted him.

Thomas Richard Behan, 93

Thomas Richard Behan, 93, of New Canaan, CT, died peacefully on Friday, May 8th, 2020 at the Waveny Care Center. 

He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 62 years, Molly Ford Behan, who passed away on April 12, 2019. 

Tom was born on January 22, 1927 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Dr. William A. Behan, Sr. and Emma Leary Behan. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1944 and entered service in the U.S. Army the following year. He later attended Georgetown University, where he earned an undergraduate degree in 1948, after which he enrolled in Georgetown’s Law School. He was awarded a law degree in 1952 and initially practiced law in Binghamton with the firms, Coughlin & Gerhart and Kramer Wales & Robinson. He married Molly Ford on May 11, 1957 and began a long and successful legal career at IBM, including assignments in Kingston, NY, Chicago, IL, and at IBM’s Corporate Headquarters in Armonk, NY. 

Throughout his time at IBM, Tom was regarded as a creative and able writer whose pen displayed the clarity and conciseness of an exacting legal mind.

Daniel Joseph Melillo, Jr., 93

Daniel Joseph Melillo, Jr. passed into the next life on April 28, 2020 at Danbury Hospital from natural causes. Daniel was born on February 15, 1927 at Norwalk, Connecticut to Daniel Joseph Melillo, Sr., son of Antonio Milillo and Maria Cristina Cianci, immigrants from Castelgrande, Potenza, Basilicata, Italy, and Gladys Arlene Finch, daughter of William Sylvester Finch of Stamford, Connecticut and Jennie Florence Thayer, daughter of Hiram Stetson Thayer and Elizabeth Mathews of Braintree, Massachusetts.  

In 2006, he was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Viola Gladys Wiley, daughter of James T. Wiley and Louisa Pack. They were married November 11, 1951 in the Killington neighborhood of Lexington, Kentucky. 

Daniel was also predeceased by his siblings Florence Wedge, Anna Venezia, Mary Elizabeth Parks, Anthony Daniel Melillo, Shirley Arlene Crook, and Ethel Gladys Lovelace. He is survived by his brothers Robert Felix Melillo and William Douglas Melillo of Pinellas County, Florida. He was predeceased in death by his daughter Violet Strano.

Marietta Yvonne James, 94

Our beloved Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and friend, Marietta Yvonne James, 94 years young of New Canaan, passed away on May 3, 2020 after complications from a brief illness. Born November 11, 1925 in Drakes Branch, Virginia, to the late Marshall and Elizabeth Banks Walker. She received her elementary education at Organ Hill Elementary School in Drakes Branch and her high school education at Central High School, Charlotte Court House, Virginia. After high school, she worked for a year then joined the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps where she attended Lincoln School of Nursing in Durham, North Carolina. In 1947, she moved to New Canaan to join her Mother and older brother, Marshall Walker.
