The town spent $3,196 in legal fees in July on something called the “220 Elm Street transaction,” according to a copy of the bill. The address refers to a parcel of land owned by New Canaan with a building owned by Bankwell. The local bank has since moved into the former Unimen building at Elm and Grove Streets (and has consolidated all branch operations at its Cherry Street location). Individual items listed in the legal bill include references to a “meeting at Town Hall” and “buyer and broker negotiations.”
