New Canaan Police at 2:12 p.m. Tuesday arrested an individual on an active arrest warrant out of Trumbull after making a motor vehicle stop at Seminary Street and Oenoke Lane, and charged the person with failure to appear.

The New Canaan Land Trust is reaching an agreement with the First Taxing District of Norwalk to purchase an antique house at 1124 Valley Road as well as one acre of property that will connect to the nonprofit organization’s Browne Preserve, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during an update at Thursday night’s Town Council meeting. The red-painted house will function as the Land Trust’s headquarters, he said. The property had made headlines throughout 2018 when its owners applied for a permit to demolish the antique house when it failed to sell. The town, preservationists and representatives from the Land Trust worked together to stave off demolition, in part, by offering to purchase the house. Eventually, the First Taxing District of Norwalk pulled its application for the demo permit, though the property since then has been the subject of a lawsuit regarding its tax assessment.

Congratulations to 2011 New Canaan High School graduate Lexi Bodick, who is playing bass on Broadway in the new original musical “Shucked,” currently in previews and opening April 4 at the Nederlander Theatre. She performed last Friday on TV’s “Today” show.

Moynihan told the Town Council during his update Thursday that he wants to hit pause for six months on the proposed West School cell tower—a project that appears to be stalling out, in any case. The first selectman said he intended to propose a Board of Selectmen-appointed committee to study the issue. Asked whether that committee would be a reconstituted Utilities Commission, he said no.

In truth, there’s nothing before the Town Council to vote on at this time. Far as I know, the last “vote” they took on this was an informal straw poll regarding the scuttled Option A.
The first selectman’s remarks last night were interesting in that six months from now would put us at the doorstep of the municipal election. I’d be shocked if anyone holding or seeking elected office resurrected a West School cell tower proposal before then (though this man has surprised me before, and with increasing frequency during this past rather erratic year).
Thanks Michael. The November election is precisely why the Town Council should take a formal position now. There should not be a clean slate when the First Selectman tries this again in December with a potentially very different council.
