The annual Summer Salon gives the community a chance to view the artists’ newest works, and the public is invited to the opening reception on July 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. While most Silvermine artists live and work in the Northeast or the Mid-Atlantic region, the Guild now has an international reach. Summer Salon runs through Aug. 24. “For the seasoned or new collector, Summer Salon features a wide range of price points and styles—from contemporary to traditional, with art for every budget and aesthetic preference,” organizers say. “No need to wait for the close of the exhibition to take home your new art, works can be purchased right off the wall.”

New Canaan Police impounded two female cats for one week last month after their owner had to leave the home for an unknown period of time with no one to look after them. On June 20, authorities picked up Britney and Sasha from their White Fall Lane home and took them to the Animal Control shelter at the Lakeview Avenue dump. “Upon entry the house smelled musty,” according to an incident report obtained by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request. “This officer could see two or three places where the cats had pooped outside of the litter box in the house. The cats did have a litter box that appeared to not have been cleaned for a few days.” There were no visible water or food bowls in the house, the report said. Though both cats had some matting fur, they did not appear to need immediate car. On June 27, police transported the animals to Just Cats Veterinary Hospital in Stamford, the report said.
