4TH MAN OUT is coming out on February 5, in theaters and VOD. Evan Todd (“Switched at Birth”) stars as Adam, a small-town, blue-collar mechanic who likes beer and hockey but surprises his buddies when he tells them he’s gay.
Some very exciting news to share here: 1998 New Canaan High School graduate Jed Mellick is producer of a highly acclaimed new feature film, “Fourth Man Out,” which is set for a Feb. 5 release in 11 cities including New York City. The movie (check out the trailer above), reviewed here by Variety, has earned accolades from critics and at film festivals over the past several months. We hear from Jed that for anyone who cannot make it to a theater, Feb. 5 will mark a release date on VOD and other platforms, and there’s a pre-order link on this web page with the trailer.

Town Clerk Claudia Weber has confirmed the deadline for a planned referendum on the funds approved for the $18.6 million renovation and expansion of Saxe Middle School has passed. More than 600 signatures in favor of the referendum would have had to be submitted by Saturday, and no documents were received from the resident leading that effort, Weber confirmed.

Expect to see activity in the former Ten Thousand Villages space at Main and East Avenue: The town on Dec. 28 issued a building permit for $90,000 worth of work on the prominent space, which will be transformed into ‘Kaahve,’ a Turkish coffee shop.

The Wheaten terrier that last month bit a man on his leg and arm, sending the dog’s owner to the hospital, has bitten again, officials said. The 2-year-old dog’s owners are understandably concerned and are working with behaviorists to “find out what is going on in this dog’s head and body,” Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm said.

It’s called the “Littlest Christmas Tree in New Canaaan”—the small evergreen that stands near the corner of Main and Maple Streets. For the last few years, someone has decorated the little tree with ornaments, and this year it also featured lights.

Heads-up, baseball players: New Canaan/Darien American Legion will hold open tryouts this month for the 2016 summer season. There will be three teams (15U Prep Division, 17U Junior Legion and 19U Senior Legion) with tryouts held 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23 and Sunday, Jan. 24 at Bobby Valentine’s Sports Academy in Stamford. The summer schedule includes 27 games in a highly competitive league, with state playoffs and professional coaching from BVSA coaches.
