A Nantucket, Mass.-based, independently owned monogramming business is on track to open next weekend on Morse Court in New Canaan.
Established in 2009 by third-generation seamstress and interior decorator Brooke Boothe, Nantucket Monogram offers wide-ranging embroidery services that reach beyond traditional golf polo shirts and include water bottles, pillows, stemware, bags, winter wear and home furnishings.
“I’m very excited,” Boothe said of the prospect of opening Oct. 15 at 1 Morse Court. For three decades the home of Dance Corner Plus, the space last May saw a New York-based women’s clothing boutique move in. Shen New York closed in July.
A Bronxville, N.Y. native who long has known and felt an affinity for New Canaan, Boothe said a ZIP code analysis showed her that more than half her business emanated from Fairfield County.
New Canaan was the right spot for Boothe’s business, she said, because it’s a shopping hub for her typical customer.
“I am the preppy handbook,” Boothe said.
The town offers a “concentration of select shops that would drive my customer,” she said.
“My customer would be shopping there,” Boothe said.
She added: “New Canaan is the epitome of who I want to shop.”
Boothe described her products as unique and featuring high quality (for example, 100 percent cotton thread) and a perfectionist’s attention to detail.
“The quality control is very high, and I am very hands-on,” she said.
Boothe said she is eager to see the business gain a strong footing in New Canaan and stay on with more than a pop-up presence here.
Wishing Brooke and Lulu the best of luck in there new town.
