A 23-year-old New Canaan man was arrested by warrant last week on a felony child pornography charge—the second in as many years, officials say.

Elliott L. Maynes, 23, of 283 Buttery Road, last Tuesday (July 19) was charged with second-degree possession of child pornography and violation of the conditions of his parole after state police seized and searched his computer and discovered images of child pornography on it, as well as evidence that he had accessed adult pornography websites, according to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc of the New Canaan Police Department.

Maynes had pleaded guilty in May 2013 to risk of injury to a child following his arrest in July 2012 on a charge of first-degree child pornography, records show.

In the 2012 case, Ogrinc said, Maynes had brought his computer into PC Richards in Norwalk to be repaired, and technicians there found images of child pornography on it.

After his conviction, the terms of Maynes’ probation prohibited him from accessing any website containing sexually explicit material or having any such material stored on a computer or digital device, Ogrinc said.

On Sept. 6, 2013—less than four months after his first conviction—Maynes’ probation officer searched the New Canaan man’s computer and discovered that he had accessed adult pornography sites, Ogrinc said.

So, the computer was seized by police and handed over to the State Police Computer Crimes and Electronic Evidence Unit. While examining the computer, state police found images of child pornography.

At about 6:30 p.m. on July 15, New Canaan police served Maynes with a warrant charging him with second-degree possession of child pornography . He was released on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear July 25 in state Superior Court in Norwalk for that charge.

Maynes turned himself  into police at 7:52 p.m. on July 15 for the violation of probation charge. He was released on $30,000 bond and scheduled to appear Aug. 1 in Norwalk.
