Police on Monday arrested a 78-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with second-degree reckless endangerment.
The man left firearms and ammunition in an unlocked vehicle parked in his Wydendown Road home and the items were stolen Jan. 10, according to a police report.
The man contacted police the following day to report the theft, and it was discovered that he didn’t have them in a secure case or compartment within the vehicle, in violation of state statute, the report said.
He surrendered to police at about 2:25 p.m. on Jan. 22 on the active warrant.
Police Chief Leon Krolikowski referred to the incident during a Police Commission meeting last month. In a separate larceny in December, four firearms were stolen from a vehicle on Michigan Road.
The Wydendown Road man was released on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear March 11 in state Superior Court.
