The New Canaan Police officers that responded to a crash on Route 106 last week saved a life, Chief John DiFederico said during Tuesday’s Board of Selectmen meeting. “The officers that arrived on scene and applied the tourniquet, no question, saved that young man’s life,” DiFederico said. The newly promoted chief was responding to praise from Selectman Nick Williams. “Just want to thank you guys for saving a man’s life,” Williams said. ***

Tigger and Piccola Murphy, kittens born to a stray cat and adopted last year by a New Canaan woman, are moving with her to Switzerland. Marian Murphy is preparing to move back to her hometown in Switzerland, near her large family, after living in New Canaan for 42 years.

Town Council member Hilary Ormond said during the legislative body’s Dec. 14 meeting that she and Councilman Tom Butterworth are looking at an ordinance that will allow for creation of an Affordable Housing Committee “and hope to have a proposal in January.”

New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski reported this week that larcenies from motor vehicles declined 30% year-over-year through the first 11 months of 2022, from 40 to 28. The welcome reduction is due to increased checks at public parks, as well as increased pressure on those who commit the thefts and the “great work of our officers,” he told the Police Commission during its regular meeting Monday. ***

New Canaan Police are investigating two reports of thefts from motor vehicles in Waveny. The window was smashed on a parked car, according to a report received at 1:09 p.m. Sunday, with valuables and credit cards stolen from inside and the cards later used fraudulently. Cash and credit cards also were stolen from an unlocked car in the park, as reported at 6 p.m. on Dec. 9. ***

The Board of Selectmen during its regular meeting Tuesday went into executive session to discuss three items, including “Real Estate Negotiations.” It wasn’t clear whether that referred to a plan to purchase the .15-acre property at 28 Grove St., whose owner passed away Dec.
