Anne R. Saunders, 88, of New Canaan, CT passed away on March 9, 2022 at Greenwich Hospital with her loving family by her side. Anne was born on June 5, 1933 in Greenwich, CT to the late William and Frances Braunstetter Russell and graduated from Greenwich High School.

She worked at AMF as a receptionist where she met her husband, Charles Saunders and also worked at Bob’s Sports in New Canaan for many years. Anne and Charles were married in 1958 at St. Mary’s of Greenwich, settled in New Canaan and had three children, Cynthia and Karen and David.  Anne took an active role with her children and as a Girl Scouts troop leader could always be seen at campouts lending a helping hand.  She entertained her son’s friends and let them use her family room for their band to practice.  Anne and Charles enjoyed spending time together and with their friends. They were members of the New Canaan Dance Club. Anne was also a member of the Suburbanites Club. She was an avid tennis player and played tennis weekly well into her 70s. Anne enjoyed nature, especially at the beach and ocean, gardening, traveling and went on many trips with Away for a Day group. Her passion, later in life, was her grandchildren and she loved spending time with them. Anne is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Valovich of Trumbull CT and her husband, Stephen; Karen Heidinger of Ridgefield CT and her husband Clifford; and 7 grandchildren: Michael, Megan, Storm, Kimberly, Maxwell, Carolyn and Amelia. She is predeceased by her husband Charles Saunders and son David Saunders.

Anne’s family will receive friends at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, CT on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 4 – 7pm. A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Anne’s life will be held at St. Aloysius Church, New Canaan, CT on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10:00am with burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anne’s memory can be made to the World Wildlife fund (World Wildlife.org.)
