New Canaan Police are investigating a complaint lodged at 3:43 p.m. Sunday by a resident who tried to purchase a cat over Facebook Marketplace—the victim placed a deposit but the suspect never showed up with the cat.

The New Canaan 11U Red Team won the 2023 Cal Ripken Major/70 State Championship held in New Canaan last week. New Canaan defeated Norwalk 5-4 in the championship game on a walk-off single by Brian Gallagher, scoring Austin Niedermeier in the bottom of the ninth inning. New Canaan will play in the New England Regionals, held in Milford, starting Saturday at 3 p.m. against the New Hampshire state champions. This is the third state title for New Canaan in four years. They did not participate in last year’s state tournament with a spot in the 10U World Series secured the season before after winning the 9U Regionals.

New Canaan Police at 11:53 a.m. on June 23 received a report of missing or stolen bistro lights from a Jonathan Road back yard. ***

First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen that Greg Reilly, hired last fall as the town’s grant writer, is pursuing a state grant to help offset costs related to the Police Department and Playhouse projects. ***

According to a letter dated June 8 and obtained by NewCanaanite.com, from Moynihan to officials with CinemaLab—the company that plans to operate a reopened Playhouse movie theater, now under renovation— the project has exceeded an agreed-upon cost-sharing threshold by at least $2.9 million, and CinemaLab is to pay $350,000 of that figure.

Wilton’s Planning & Zoning Commission on Monday grudgingly voted to approve a five-story, 42-unit residential building that had come into the town as an affordable housing application, local news site Good Morning Wilton reports.

New Canaan Police at 3:49 a.m. Sunday received a report of a vehicle stolen from a private parking lot behind the new townhouses at Forest Street and Locust Avenue. It was recovered in Bridgeport. ***
