Meadow Butterfly Walk

Join us for a guided walk with expert lepidopterist, Victor DeMasi, on Saturday, August 21st at 10am. We’ll learn about the many different butterflies and pollinators that can be found in our region, and ways to promote the habitats that are critical to their survival. The walk will be held at the Livingston-Higley Preserve, which is home to one of the Land Trust’s largest meadows. From monarchs to swallowtails, the meadow provides the perfect location for observing and learning about butterflies. Registration: Advanced registration is required and costs $5 per person.

New Canaan Land Trust Labyrinth: Talk and Walk on Eve of Summer Solstice

On the eve of the summer solstice, New Canaan Land Trust invites you to join artist and professor Christopher Kaczmarek to visit the Labyrinth at Watson-Symington Preserve. The Labyrinth is a seven-circuit classic labyrinth 60-foot in diameter, created by Kaczmarek for the New Canaan Sculpture Trail 2020. Kaczmarek will offer an informal talk about the history of seven-circuit labyrinths and the making of the New Canaan Labyrinth from local stones gathered at the preserve. The outdoor talk will be followed by a meditative walk through the labyrinth.

Waking Up to the Earth – An Environmentally Inspired Poetry Reading with CT State Poet Laureate

Join the New Canaan Land Trust on Saturday, May 15th for an outdoor, environmentally-inspired poetry reading that will feature Connecticut’s Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson and seven other acclaimed Connecticut poets. Seven poets will read their poems from the recently published anthology Waking Up to the Earth. Edited by State Poet Laureate Gibson, Waking Up to the Earth is a collection of poems by Connecticut poets who write of their relationships with the earth at a time of global climate crisis.
