Eleanor Pierpont Suydam, 97

Eleanor May Pierpont Suydam, 97, of New Canaan, CT, passed away peacefully at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, CT on Friday, August 21, 2020. Beloved “Aunt Ellie” led a long and healthy life filled with family, friends, a tremendous professional career, and countless adventures. She is predeceased by her husband, John I. Suydam, and her brothers Wilfred E. Pierpont III, Richard R. Pierpont, and John B. Pierpont. She is survived by her sister, Joan Carosielli, of Lancaster, PA, and by an entire family tree of over 30 nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. Eleanor was born August 28, 1922 in Waterbury, CT to Wilfred E. Pierpont, Jr. and Josephine Boyle Pierpont.

Michael Warren Walsh, 60

Michael Warren Walsh, 60, a New Canaan resident, passed away on August 2, 2020. He was born on April 5, 1960 to the late Warren and Georgiene Rinko Walsh. Michael (Mike) was the beloved husband to Nancy Panzarino Walsh of New Canaan, Connecticut and brother to Valerie Palacio of Katonah, New York. 

While living in New Canaan, Mike and Nancy raised two children, April and Christian. He was first and foremost devoted to his family and friends. Mike is also remembered as a loving brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and son-in-law.

Barbara Suzanne Potter McGan, 83

Barbara Suzanne Potter McGan, 83, passed away July 4, 2020 in Branford, Connecticut. A native of New Rochelle, NY, she was born May 30, 1937 to Stewart Gordon and Mary (Wicks) Potter. She moved with her family first to Waterville, NY then East Greenbush, NY, where she attended Columbia High School. Mrs. McGan graduated from Green Mountain College in Vermont where she was the President of the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter as well as the Chapter’s founder. After college she continued to pursue her studies in chemistry and pathology with an apprenticeship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, NY. She would go on to become a certified Medical Technologist and research assistant to Dr. John Muntz in the Biochemistry Department at Albany Medical College. Her assistance and research led to the publication of several articles in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. She married Dr. Robert B. McGan, her devoted husband of 61 years, in Albany, NY in 1959.

Jane Carroll O’Donnell Janis, 80

Jane Carroll O’Donnell Janis, age 80, formerly of Sarasota, FL and New Canaan, CT passed away July 16th, 2020 in Denver, CO. Born in Pittsburgh, PA., Jane was the daughter of Thomas Edgar O’Donnell and Jane Claire Daschbach. She was recently preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Norb Janis. Jane is survived by her daughters Linda (Rob) Wachter, Nancy (Denny) Martin, Kate (Jasper) Verlaan, son Paul Janis and son of the heart, Steven (Malia) Graciano; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild-to-be; her sisters, Betsy Medonis, Nancy Brenza, Peggy O’Donnell, Sally O’Donnell and brother Tom O’Donnell; her godchild Robyn Kress; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Jane had a desire to always find the fun in life in hilarious, loving and unexpected ways.

Mary A. Tiani, 96

Mary A. Tiani, 96, of New Canaan, passed away on Saturday July 11, 2020, at Norwalk Hospital. Mary was born in New Canaan on September 11, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Ciro Pirone and Josephine Marino. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Fredrick P. Tiani, her sister, Antoinette Buongiorno and her brothers, James, Anthony and Patsy Pirone. Mary was a graduate of New Canaan High School and enjoyed keeping in contact with friends from her class. She worked as a bookkeeper at Murphy’s 5 & 10 on Elm Street in New Canaan until her marriage to the love of her life, former New Canaan Police Chief Fredrick Tiani.
