An entity identifying itself as ‘New Canaan Merritt Apartments LLC’ has filed a lawsuit saying a town man has failed to pay rent on a Park Street unit while subletting it out. The defendant lives on Valley Road and he didn’t pay rent in March or April, then failed to clear out of the unit as instructed, according to a complaint filed April 29 in state Superior Court in Norwalk. According to the New England Real Estate Journal, a limited liability company more than three years ago purchased the 4-building, 34-unit Merritt Apartments in New Canaan. New Canaan Merritt Apartments LLC has dissolved, according to records on file with the Connecticut secretary of the state.

P&Z had heard the application in April and May, when the neighbors’ attorney raised concerns on behalf of his client.

A mother duck and several ducklings died last week following an unfortunate incident on Thayer Pond Road. According to a police report, several kids waiting at a bus stop reported that a family of ducks had become stuck in a storm drain. Officials were able to pull out some ducklings, but a handful of those birds then were lost in nearby woods, and then a grate on the storm drain was replaced before their mother was able to escape, meaning she and whatever ducklings were still in the drain likely succumbed to hypothermia, according to Officer Allyson Halm of the New Canaan Police Department’s Animal Control section.
