More than six months after announcing that he would take over the former Silk Purse space on Main Street, the owner of Greenwich Pharmacy said he’s ready to open on Monday.
Standing on the new mahogany floors he’s had laid in the 4,000-square-foot space and matching, roomy shelving housing a largely imported product line, Dmitri Daniarov told NewCanaanite.com that he’s “very excited” to launch Greenwich Pharmacy at 112 Main St.
“I’m feeling great,” Daniarov said. “The people of New Canaan are great people. We have, in Greenwich, a big base of people from New Canaan. They’re very happy that we are opening up so that they don’t have to travel to Greenwich. Greenwich came here.”
Together with New Canaan Pharmacy (formerly Varnum’s) at East and Cherry, the business that Daniarov soft-opens on Monday with his wife, Susana, will be the second independently owned and operated pharmacy in town.
Daniarov said he plans to differentiate himself by saving “thousands and thousands” for families on prescription drugs, and to tackle the difficulty of parking by offering convenience.
Greenwich Pharmacy’s goal is to fill all prescriptions “within five minutes,” he said, adding that “parking is a big problem in Greenwich, as well.”
“How did we overcome the problem? By offering free delivery of prescriptions. People have prescriptions, they come home they are sick and don’t want to go out. They pick up the phone and say, ‘Guys I have two prescriptions, can you pick it up and refill and deliver it to me?’ We do this at no charge.”
Daniarov said he intends to embed the business in the New Canaan community, including by joining the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce.
The organization’s executive director, Tucker Murphy, said the chamber has been “watching the progress of the store coming together and it is great to see, finally, the unveiling of the product line and the aesthetic.”
“It looks like it’s going to be very upscale with a wide variety of products,” Murphy said. “We think they will do well here, wish them the best and look forward to working with them.”
In addition to the prescription counter, Greenwich Pharmacy has three facial rooms (with Elemis Biotec) and a full massage room, and sells Crabtree & Evelyn bath products, cosmetic bags, candles, greeting cards, Mason Pearson brushes, Floris of London perfume and the Shiseido skin care line.
“This is handpicked merchandise that took many, many years to put together,” Daniarov said.
A grand opening party will follow Monday’s soft opening, likely in mid-March, he said.
New Canaan is seriously LUCKY to have Dmitri and Suzanna come to your town. Every day people in Greenwich defect from CVS, in favor of great customer service and free pick up and delivery of prescriptions.
