Eric F. “Jic” Snyder, 61, of Seymour CT, passed away March 17, 2021, at CT Hospice in Branford after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Eric was born in Berwyn, IL and grew up in New Canaan, CT. He attended West school and New Canaan High. He was a professional glazier and worked at glass shops in CT and NY. Well-respected for his work, Eric was the recipient of many accolades, including consecutive Glass Installer and Employee of the Year awards. Eric was an avid bowler, WW II history buff, and a meticulous builder of model airplanes of that era.

Brent Harrell, 57

Brent Harrell of New Canaan passed away unexpectedly while visiting Savannah, GA on March 28, 2021. He was 57 years old. Brent was born on July 12, 1963 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the beloved husband of Leigh Harrell and the loving father of Brian (19) and Bryce (17).  Brent, Leigh and the family have resided in New Canaan for more than 30 years. Brent was self-employed as the proud owner of The Main Street Inn in New Canaan. 

Growing up, Brent spent several years living abroad in Saudi Arabia as well as in Switzerland attending the Leysin American School from 1978 – 1979.  He then graduated high school in 1981 from The Pennington School in New Jersey followed by two years at the University of Hartford. Brent and Leigh could always be found together – whether at home, traveling, with friends, at Gates or Uncle Joe’s – they were best friends and were inseparable. And, as a proud father, Brent was extremely active and involved with Brian’s competitive swimming while he was in high school and could always be seen at Bryce’s football games. Brent will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful friend. He was extremely smart and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family. He loved to golf and travel.

Nicola A. Gesualdi, 78

Nicola Antonio Gesualdi, known by Nick to his friends, passed away on the morning of April 3rd in his home in New Canaan, where he was a longtime resident. He was born in Panni, in the Puglia region of Italy, on June 14, 1942. He emigrated to America in 1963, settling in Norwalk, where he worked as master carpenter eventually owing and running his own shop. Royal Woodcraft, Inc. specialized in kitchen cabinetry and was recognized for its expert craftmanship and attention to detail. He moved to New Canaan in 1969 and has lived here since.

Mary R. Smith, 80

Mary Ellen Rogers Smith died at her home in Red Hook, NY in the predawn hours of March 23, 2021. In the waning days of her long struggle with several chronic conditions, Mary was surrounded by her beloved family and friends, who came from far and wide to bid her farewell. 

Mary Ellen Rogers was born on June 3, 1940 in Bremerton, WA and raised on the Kitsap Peninsula overlooking Puget Sound. Always a shining student, it was no surprise that Mary made her career in education. After her undergraduate training at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), Mary learned her trade as a secondary level English teacher in classrooms around the globe. After graduating from PLU, Mary and her new husband, David A. Smith (Married June 9, 1962) joined the second group of United States Peace Corps volunteers in 1963 and was dispatched to teach young women in a newly independent Nigeria at Queens’ School in the town of Enugu. 

Upon returning from the Peace Corps, Mary devoted her career to public education in Connecticut, where she made a home with her husband, and two daughters, Annie and Sarah Smith.

Anna Loreta Recchia, 87

Anna Loreta Recchia, 87, of New Canaan, CT passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 after a prolonged illness. Anna was born in Settefrati, Italy to Giuseppe Socci and Angelina Pia. She and her loving husband of 64 years, Alessandro “Alex” Recchia immigrated to the U.S. in 1965 to New Canaan with their four young children. Here they formed a true family legacy based on traditional values, strength and love. Anna was the backbone of the family, a true role model for anyone who crossed her path.
